Nipun Agarwal, Chief Commercial and Transformation Officer for Air India, said on LinkedIn that the airline is touched by the worldwide enthusiasm for the plane order. He stated that the process that began with the privatization of Air India two years ago is what led to the placement of this order for 840 aircraft.

“The deal includes an option to purchase 370 aircraft, and it will purchase 470 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing over the following ten years,” he stated. A carrier has never placed such a large order for an aircraft in the history of commercial aviation.

Additionally, for the long-term maintenance of the engines, “we have partnered with CFM International (CFM), Rolls-Royce, and GE Aerospace,” he continued. According to Agarwal, the agreement underlines the Tata Group‘s desire to make Air India a top-tier airline and provide direct flights from India to all major cities across the globe.

A350 widebody aircraft and 210 small-body aircraft will be bought from Airbus by Tata Group-owned airline.
